Aruvadai’ is a big budget film which features, for the first time, Malayalam mega star Mammootty and Tamil action king, Arjun , together.

The movie is a bilingual as it is being made in Malayalam too. The Malayalam version has been titled ‘Vande Matharam’.

The ‘Queen of Smiles’ Sneha will play an air hostess. She is Mammootty’s female interest in the film. Arjun will have Shradda Arya as his leading lady.

Saucy Mamta Mohandas of the ‘Lanka’ fame also has a key role in the film, which is being directed by T. Aravind.

The flick is being produced by Henry who has to his credit a host of Tamil films such as 'Kolangal,' 'Bharathi Kannamma', 'Puthumai Pithan', 'Marumalarchi', 'Kallazhakan' and 'Kannukku Kannaka’.

‘Aruvadai’ is the story of a bunch of officers who are out to stop an international terrorist outfit that is hell-bent upon playing havoc with the country.

The producer is trying to rope in Amitabh Bachchan for a cameo role in the film. If the effort fails, a senior politician may enact the role intended for the Big B.

The film boasts of rare action scenes, shot by stunt director Anal Arasu on the islands off Sriharikota. The climax is a spectacular affair with the participation of at least 20,000 people.

The film features a new villain as well: Deepak J.D. Jagadish and Jai Akash play senior cops.

Others in the cast are Riyaz Khan, Vijayakumar, Rajan P Dev, Rajkapoor and Mumtaz.

Vidyasagar is composing music for the lyrics penned by Pa Vijay, Vairamuthu and Yugabarathi.

Cinematographers Vetri and Rajesh Yadav are wielding super 35 cameras for the flick filmed at locations in Kochi, Chennai, Marthandam, Ilayankudy and Thengapattanam.

The movie, according to the grapevine, is expected to cost a whopping Rs 14 crore.
